Welcome back to our wonderful world of hamsters. There was a time in our lives when we had quite a few hamsters and many, many hamster adventures.
I remember one time we had company and their little girl wanted to hold a hamster. So the kids went and got one for her. She was having a great time holding that little hamster, then all of a sudden she got bored with it and quietly let the hamster go on the arm of the couch and went off to do something else. Well, by the time we all realized what had happened, we were just in time to see him run right off the arm of the couch and down inside of the couch !
Wow! I think that would best describe what the little hamster must of been feeling or thinking-Wow! He saw his chance and with a twinkle in his eyes he beat feet and ran as fast as he could. He had found freedom and he was going to take advantage of it!
I'm sure he felt this new found freedom was just what he wanted. I think maybe we've all experienced something like this in our lives- our chance to be free, to make our own decisions. We can all look back and see that some of these times worked out great and some - well- we would just as soon forget if you know what I mean. Sometimes things aren't always what they seem. I'm sure in this case he didn't realize where this new freedom would take him would not have food and water and it would have no one to take take of him. Maybe he was thinking- no more giants (us) to tell him what to do. haha.
Have you ever tried to catch a hamster that doesn't want to be caught? If you have , you know it is no easy task and especially when they are down inside of a couch. When we would get close to him, he would see and run the other way. We eventually did catch him and placed him back in his little hamster house with his other little hamster buddies and lots of food and water. Whether he realized it or not, he was safe again and he had someone to take care of him.
Sometimes, like the little hamster we can get of course, make the wrong decisions or go in a direction that at the time can look very good and very inviting. Sometimes we end up finding out that it is nothing like we thought it would be. And, sometimes we need help getting back. God is always there for us. Even when we make mistakes that sometimes go against what He tells us is best, He is there for us. All we have to do is ask Him to help and forgive us and He is waiting, ready to help and forgive. We can run to Him.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalms 46:1
We do not realize how much Jesus loves us or how much He does for us. Sometimes the directions we choose and go aren't always what they seem - they aren't always good. But, when we choose Jesus we can be sure that it is the best way for us and it is good. He cares and loves us and will always be there for us.
"...I have loved you with an everlasting love..." Jeremiah 31:3
Jesus tells us in Revelation 3:20 that He stands at the door and knocks. He is just waiting for us to open the door of our hearts and let Him come in.
