His Amazing Love

Escape Artists

Dog relaxing in the grass

Over the years we have had two escape artists in our family zoo. The first one is I want to tell you about is Bandy our Springer Spaniel dog- he has been in other Family Zoo stories. This dog had a personality and a half. Any of you who have had pets know that they really do have great personalities. They are as different from one to another as people are.

If you have read my story called "Thirsty" you know that we had to put up a fence for ours dogs after we moved out here. Getting the fence up was the easy part, keeping Bandy inside the fence was not so easy. It was next to impossible to keep him inside the fence. something inside him just felt like it had to be free. The funny thing about it was that when he would escape the fence he would only go lay on the front porch. but, hey he was free. There was a shed in the backyard that had a little bit of a space between it and the ground and we couldn't believe it, but Bandy somehow scrunched himself down and crawled underneath it to get out of the backyard! We still can't figure out how he did it- I guess if you want something bad enough you find a way. He was always digging under the fence and crawling out. The fence had wooden fence posts (4 inch wide) by the gate. One day we heard him whimpering and found him up on one of those fence posts- all four of his feet trying to balance on that fence post. Try and picture it. He had somehow gotten up there and was trying to get the courage to jump down. So we got him down.

Our other escape artist was a horse named Crystal. She was the same way, you could not keep her in her pen for anything. The difference between her and Bandy was that she would actually open the gate and let herself out!  So we would have to take precautions. They just did not like being confined.

I think a lot of us are like that in our own lives. We aren't happy or we feel trapped or fenced in. Sometimes it is circumstances or choices we make that make us feel that way. But, there is an answer. And, it will make us free. When Jesus died on that cross for our lives, it was so we could be free and live. (John 3:16)  John 8:32 "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."  In Jesus we are free. We can be free of our sins and mistakes and free to live our lives fresh. (1 John 1:9 ) We can also be free of our cares for we are told to give them to Him. 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you."
